"Dance with the Swan" is a playlist from Just Dance 2024 Edition. It also serves as a story playlist for the game. The playlist is a sequel to "Enter the Danceverses" from Just Dance 2023 Edition and features its main characters in new routines.
Development[]
"Enter the Danceverses" served as a large aspect of the marketing of Just Dance 2023 Edition and marked the first time a Just Dance game had a main focus on lore that spanned across multiple maps. When Just Dance 2024 Edition was announced on June 12, 2023, the same characters appeared on the branding, but did not appear in any of the maps announced at the time. However, the developers confirmed in an interview that the characters would return with a darker storyline.[1] Lore maps would officially start being revealed on October 9, 2023, with the release of Canned Heat during the Just Dance 2024 Edition Celebration event and teasers were posted featuring the main characters. The storyline was officially announced in a trailer on October 11, 2023.

Backstory[]

In the previous storyline, Wanderlust, a being with the ability to travel across the Danceverses through portals, travels to Earth to recruit Sara, a human, in his battle against Night Swan. Night Swan has been enslaving other coaches, forcing them into her army. Wanderlust recruits two more dancers, Brezziana and Mihaly, before taking on Night Swan. The group, now known as the Just Dancers, take on Night Swan, her army, and her son, Jack Rose. During the battle, Jack Rose changes sides and the Just Dancers defeat Night Swan, sending her back to her place of origin. The Just Dancers celebrate and Sara returns to Earth.
Main events[]
Wanderlust and Discoball dance around the Lobby of Danceverses as the other Just Dancers are "introduced" through floating portals with captions of who is starring, similar to the title sequence of a sitcom. Wanderlust tosses Discoball into the portal that appears to show Sara on the other side. It is then revealed that "Sara" was an illusion conjured by Night Swan, who reveals herself as the "special guest", takes Discoball, and closes the portal. Night Swan corrupts Discoball with her powers, turns them into Dark Discoball, and sends them to Earth while posing as Wanderlust to trick Sara into entering her domain. Night Swan possesses Sara and turns her into her puppet. Wanderlust sees the action, and proceeds to call the rest of the Just Dancers.
At Workout Flamingo Beach, Brezziana guides a group of people through an exercise, as Night Swan casts her magic upon the beach. Brezziana fights back against the magic and successfully prevents the others from becoming part of Night Swan's army. She then sees Wanderlust as he shows her Sara's predicament and asks for her help. Meanwhile, in Mihaly's world, Mihaly rips a Night Swan poster off of their bedroom wall. They transform their room into the same realm seen in Rather Be, and travel towards Master Panda's temple. Calling upon his power, they use the Flow to transform themselves into a panda. Night Swan tries to infect the realm with her magic, which Mihaly successfully fights off. Wanderlust calls upon Mihaly as well to help save Sara. He then attempts to recruit a seemingly lost Jack, only to be interrupted by Night Swan before Jack can notice him. The water in Swan Tower is then charmed by Night Swan, showing Jack a reflection of an alternate, more successful version of himself that he could be if he returned to supporting his mother. Jack is distracted by the illusion, unaware of the danger Sara is in.
Wanderlust, Brezziana, and Mihaly enter Night Swan's domain to rescue Sara. However, to their surprise, Sara has already been fully corrupted and they've fallen into a trap. Each of the group tries to fight the evil Sara, only to be corrupted one by one. Before Mihaly is defeated, they use their power to send a distress signal to Jack, alerting him to the danger his friends are in. However, Mihaly's effort is in vain, as they and their friends are all fully corrupted alongside Sara, becoming puppets under the control of Night Swan. The newly-evil Just Dancers celebrate their new selves and advance with Night Swan and Dark Discoball in her ship to spread their terror across the Danceverses. Jack arrives too late to save his friends, and he helplessly watches as the ship sets off.

- "Dance with the Swan" marks the first time Night Swan is not portrayed by Shirley Henault. Instead, she is portrayed by Maïwenn Bramoullé.
- "Dance with the Swan" also marks the first time the same character is portrayed by more than one performer, as Mihaly is portrayed as their normal self by Soraya Gacem and as their panda and corrupted selves by Axelle Carrere.
- Swan Lake is used as background music for the playlist’s reveal trailer.
- From October 10 to 13, 2023, the official Just Dance Twitter account was rebranded to appear as if it had been taken over by Night Swan via Dark Discoball in order to promote the lore maps. The account made several Tweets about the storyline, teasing the maps, and replying to other users in character.[2]
