Danceverses are the different worlds that most Just Dance routines take place in. Locations of each individual Danceverse serves as the main setting of the aforementioned routines, and they play a major role in the lore of the games, including the "Enter the Danceverses" and "Dance with the Swan" storylines.

Development[]

The concept of the Danceverses was initially explored in All Stars Mode on Just Dance 2020, although it had less emphasis on their details and are placed as locations that Panda has to travel. Eventually, the concept was re-visited within the series development, either around or during Just Dance 2022 and Just Dance 2023 Edition. The name "Danceverse" was eventually revealed in promotional materials for Just Dance 2023 Edition, although information regarding each Danceverse are scarce and vague. Certain background elements and metaphysical elements, most prominently The Flow, are added into the canon.

Due to the concept of Danceverses not being fully explored until Just Dance 2023 Edition, confirmation as to what takes place where is not typically found within the routines themselves. Rather, proof usually comes from the following sources:

  • In-game background descriptions (excluding unreleased content, as that may be subject to change prior to release)
  • Official social media posts
  • Official promotional content
  • Lore videos made by Ubisoft Star players with official information

Maps from other licenses, such as We Don’t Talk About Bruno and More, were initially confirmed to be on Earth as well.[1][2] However, the song names were cut out of the video[3] and it is explicitly revealed by Aurore Bury, the series' Loremaster at the time, that the collaborative routines, along with regional exclusives and VIP routines (e.g., Million Dollar Baby), are not part of the Just Dance canon.

Description[]

Danceverses are celestial bodies that exist within the Just Dance universe, physically described as planets that have unique and varied characteristics in size, climates, environments, settlements and people. All of the Danceverses feature a metaphysical element known as The Flow, a yet-to-be understood energy that everyone within the Danceverses can feel but only some can master, akin to the Force from the Star Wars franchise.

There are ten different Danceverses, all of which are located within a region of space. Traveling between these Danceverses are possible through the use of methods such as a starship or a portal, with the latter being performed by individuals who can use The Flow to their will.

The Glade of Dreams[]

The Glade of Dreams, the setting of fellow Ubisoft franchise Rayman, has appeared in Just Dance. However, it is considered to be a separate planet from both Earth and the rest of the Danceverses. Only one map is confirmed to take place there (though it does make a brief reappearance in another map):

Name Description Songs
Enchanted Garden[4] The Glade of Dreams, where people gather to enjoy the serenity.

Trivia[]

  • A similar concept using the planets was planned to be featured on Just Dance 2018 as an Adventure Mode, but was ultimately scrapped from the game.
  • Maps from other licenses such as Disney were initially confirmed to exist outside of the Danceverses. However, this portion of the lore Q&A video was edited out, leaving their locations unknown.[3]
  • According to former lore master Aurore Bury, all the stories in the Just Dance lore (with the exception of Night Swan’s story arc) were conceived after the creation of the related maps.[6]
