Prior to the song’s debut on Just Dance 2014, it was originally planned to appear on Just Dance 2 with a different routine, but it was ultimately left out of the final game.
The song is noted for being the namesake for the Just Dance franchise.
The coach is a woman named Icona Shard. She has long bright reddish pink hair with bangs tied into a high ponytail. She wears a one-piece leotard with black, blue, and cyan triangles in a mosaic pattern, and a pair of leather platform booties with a similar pattern. When the techno part of the song begins, her hair turns neon blue, the mosaic patterns illuminate into pink, turquoise, and magenta, and her skin turns pitch black. After the bridge, her color scheme returns to normal.
Gold Moves 1, 2, 5, and 6: Put your right arm up in a diagonal pose. Gold Moves 3 and 4: Put your right hand over your right eye and your left one on your hip.
Applause and Just Dance are the first two songs by Lady Gaga in the series.
The title of the Just Dance series is derived from the title of this song.
Just Dance was referenced by Ubisoft in the ESRB label of Just Dance 2014, in which the following lyrics were cited: "I’ve had a little bit too much . . .Can’t find my drink or man,".[3]
Just Dance and I Kissed a Girl are the only two songs in Just Dance 2014 to have both a Sweat routine and an On-Stage routine.
In the background, there are twelve Just Dance coaches (eleven from past games and one from Just Dance 2014). Most of them are females, except for Rasputin, Hey Ya, and Moves Like Jagger, who appear during Colby’s part.
Each installment number of every previous game (up until Just Dance 4) determines how many coaches from that game are shown in the Classic background; one from the first installment, two from Just Dance 2, three from Just Dance 3, and four from Just Dance 4 (non-DLC).
Icona Shard's name references the song and game series' title, and the shards of the stained glass windows.
The following bugs occur on camera consoles:
During the line "What’s goin’ on, on the floor?", the camera consoles do not score while the coach performs the moves. However, they score for the leg movements, which the controller consoles do not account for.
Gold Moves 1, 2, 5 and 6 do not actually grant the "Yeah" feedback, but rather, the immediate next moves do so, which are performed with the left hand. This is also carried over to later appearances of the routine in Just Dance Unlimited.
On an image showing all of the avatars that are on Just Dance 2014, a Beta version of Just Dance’s avatar can be seen. It has long straight hair instead of a ponytail.
On September 18, 2013, Just Dance was leaked by a Ubisoft employee who uploaded the gameplay to his personal channel. Two minutes later, it received a copyright strike from Ubisoft. Meanwhile, copies of the gameplay were uploaded to download servers and many YouTube channels by them.[4][5]
Just Dance is always the first recommended routine in Just Dance 2014 and Just Dance Wii U when the games are played for the first time.
Icona Shard’s silhouette can be seen at the bottom right of all the Just Dance 2014 Facebook awards.
Just Dance is one of many routines to have a Dancemas ornament.[6]
In the video showcasing the Just Dance Creativity Workshop, the coach for the "Just Real" version of Crazy Kids is seen wearing the same suit as Icona Shard, albeit with different colors.
On the downloadable version for Just Dance 2015 and further, fewer moves are counted for than on its debut until Just Dance Now.
Icona Shard appears as a cameo in the background of Uptown Funk.
Icona Shard appears in the teaser for the song "I’ll House You" by Don Diablo ft. Jungle Brothers, along with Wild and Barbra Streisand.[7]
There's a bug in the Just Dance 2015 DLC version, where it says "RedOne Konvict" too early.
Icona Shard is featured in the start screen of the updated Just Dance Now.
Icona Shard makes a cameo appearance in Telephone.
She is the only Lady Gaga song coach whose name was not revealed in that routine.
The emote representing Icona Shard appears in Just Dance 2023 Edition's search menu when no search results are found.
On March 3, 2025, there are updates for routine in Just Dance+.
Camera scoring was made and remote scoring was remade.
The pictograms were also updated.
The HUD does not appear at the beginning of the routine, only appearing shortly before the first move (right when the "Yeah!" is shouted out). The HUD also disappears at the end of the routine (right when Lady Gaga sings "dance").
Also, with the new update, every Gold Move has been slightly shifted to now be in sync with the coach’s right hand, as the Gold Move sound goes off when the word "Just" is sung at the chorus. However, at the second chorus, the Gold Move sound is slightly off-sync, going off between the words "Just" and "Dance", but not going off at the left hand move, as it did in earlier games.
Mashup[]
In a similar fashion to the background of the Classic routine, most of the dancers who appear during Lady Gaga’s part are females (with the exception of Rock n’ Roll (Will Take You to the Mountain)), and all of the dancers who appear during Colby’s part are males.
In the Mashup, there's a chance that when Feel So Right appears, Westley and her pictograms will be missing, and no moves will be counted until California Gurls appears.[citation needed]
Files for Just Dance’s Mashup were found amongst the DLC files of Just Dance 2015.[8]
