Name

  • The original name of the game was allegedly Just Dance 5, as there are some placeholder images with "JD5" on them, and the main folder for the game is titled "jd5".
    • Additionally, on a website for a game conference, the game logo that was supposed to say "Just Dance 2014" is shown as "Just Dance 5" instead.
    • In Just Dance 2014’s servers, the game is referred to as "Just Dance 5"[1][2]
    • This was also found in the DLC files, shown within the Storage Settings on Xbox 360 as "JD5-DLC".

Demo

  • The game was originally supposed to have a demo, as there is an unused Extras square with the words "Not available in demo version" that can be found in the game files.

Graphics

  • The game originally had the same Gold Move sound and menu music as Just Dance 4.
  • When scrolling from one song to another in the song selection menu, the preview audio was not played immediately.[3]
  • Mojo coins had many different designs.
  • The color of the World Dance Floor was in a darker shade of purple.
  • One of the default player names was "Chipsy", as seen in an early screenshot.
  • The gained stars and Wiimote calibrations did not originally "dance" in rhythm to the music.
  • The sound effect that plays when a star is earned differs from the one of final release.[4]
  • In the first batches of preview gameplays and in the E3 build of the game, the scoring had a black bar between the player name and the actual scoring.
    • Besides, the text of the feedback icons and the decorations around it appeared without animations.
  • Initially, the star bars were flatter and overlapped each other. This can be seen in the short gameplay thumbnail of Danse (Pop Version).
  • The Autodance screen had a different design.
  • Party Master Mode originally had a different design, and some captions were also different.
    • One of these unused captions was for Call Me Maybe (Alternate Version), who is not featured in any Party Master Mode in the game.
    • There was also a "Strike The Pose" button, like in Just Dance 4 Puppet Master Modes.

Unknown Dancers

  • A male dancer with a neat red hair in a red splatter suit with spikes and yellow shoes appears on the PAL boxart, on the UK website, and on the Soundless Quiz, but not in the game.
    • The dancer has been shown with a possible Duet partner, suggesting that he might have been planned for a Duet routine in Just Dance 2014.[citation needed]
  • A male dancer with a disco ball head appears in Mashups and makes a minor appearance in the background of Gentleman, but does not have his own dance routine in the game. He has, however, an avatar that is available for purchase: it is the most expensive purchasable item in Just Dance 2014, with a price of 500 Mojo coins. The avatar can also be found in a fankit released by Ubisoft.[citation needed]
    • His pictogram color is usually light blue with yellow arrows, except in C’mon (Sweat Mashup), where they are green with dark red arrows.
    • In the game files, the file names for the coach’s extractions simply refer to him as "discoballman2".
    • The coach makes very brief appearances in a Vimeo showreel uploaded by Ubisoft employee Emilie Besson.[5]
      • He makes a cameo in the background of Happy, but with a magenta outfit instead of the blue and red one. A similar dancer is seen in the routine of Je sais pas danser with a blue shirt and pants.
      • He also appears from Just Dance 2015 to Just Dance 2017 in announcements for Community Remix contests, where he wears a magenta suit with a matching fedora and a white shirt. The same appearance is seen in Just Dance Now when players are asked to fill out a survey to express their opinions on the game.
      • He also makes a cameo in the Just Dance Harlem Shake.[6]
      • The dancer also appears in Party Master Modes with the following captions attributed to his dance moves:

        • Disco Fighting
        • Disco Thrust

  • A male dancer with beard wearing a hat with spikes, a blue jacket, a black vest, blue jeans, black shoes, and a black fingerless glove appears in the background of the Just Dance 2014 Website.[7]

Avatars

  • Night Boat To Cairo was going to have an avatar for P3.[8]
  • P1 from Somethin' Stupid was originally going to have an avatar returning from Just Dance 4; however, it never appeared in the final release of the game.
  • A-Punk’s avatar from Just Dance 4 was going to make an appearance in the game as well, although, it was later removed.
  • Sympathy For The Devil originally had a different avatar.
  • The following avatars were different before the official release of the game:
  • There are two avatars who resemble Heidi and her grandfather, from the children book of the same name. The resemblance can be noticed by their names, which are "pastille_icon_heidi" and "pastille_icon_viejo" ("viejo" means "old man" in Spanish).
  • There are four unused avatars in the game files, which are called "ui_icon_cool", "ui_icon_crazy", "ui_icon_cute" and "ui_icon_funny" respectively.

Game Features

  • In the trailer for the game, a feature called Just Dance DJ was supposed to appear in the game, but was inexplicably removed before release.
  • Medleys were supposed to reappear in the game.[citation needed]
  • In the game files for PlayStation 4, instructional images showing how to play with a DualShock controller can be found, along with the controller icon used in-game for scoring.
  • A parental code function was planned to be implemented in the game, but the idea was ultimately scrapped for unknown reasons.[9]

99 Luftballons

  • The routine originally consisted of a male Duet with a different choreography.
    • Some moves from this beta versions were reused in the final one.
      • The coaches make brief appearances in the announcement trailer for the game and in the "Just Dance Harlem Shake" video.

Alfonso Signorini (Eroe Nazionale)

  • 9 Beta pictograms can be seen in the Just Dance Now files for this routine.

All I Want for Christmas Is You

  • All I Want for Christmas Is You by Mariah Carey was meant to be featured in the game, but it was ultimately scrapped for unknown reasons.
    • The coach appears in Dark Horse’s Mashup and in the Party Master Modes for Holding Out for a Hero, Summer, and All About That Bass.
    • An unused avatar can be found in the old Just Dance Now servers.
    • The menu icon was found on a promotional image for Just Dance Unlimited.
      • In the Just Dance 2016 files, there is also an unused .json document with Difficulty and Effort ratings, which are respectively 2 and 1. Also, {{"OriginalJDVersion: 2014"}} can be seen, which confirms the song was planned to appear on Just Dance 2014.

American Girl

  • American Girl was supposed to have a sky blue glowy outline instead of a thick blue and white solid outline. This is visible in some Beta screenshots and in the menu icon.

Applause

  • Applause was intended to have a Party Master Mode, which was cancelled before the game release. It can still be found in the game files.[10]

Applause (Alternate)

  • An unused album coach and album background can be found in the files.

Aquarius/Let The Sunshine In

  • The hug was not counted as a Gold Move in the preview.[11]
  • In some preview pictures, the routine has uncolored pictograms (green for P1 and red for P2, the default pictogram colors)

Blame It on the Boogie (Extreme Version)

  • A placeholder album coach and an album background for the Extreme routine can be found in the files.
    • The same files are used for all the alternate routines and battles (except for Ghostbusters, Blurred Lines, Applause, and Where Have You Been (On-Stage)).

C’mon

  • The pictograms have default colors in some promotional gameplays.
    • In one of them, Panda’s Gold Move is shown as a Gold Move for both dancers.
  • As seen on the NTSC cover, P1 was originally going to have a entirely different color scheme.

Careless Whisper

  • On an image showing all of the avatars that are on Just Dance 2014, a Beta version of P1’s avatar can be seen. It has sideburns and differently-shaped sunglasses.

Careless Whisper (On-Stage Mode)

  • In the announcement trailer, the On-Stage version of Careless Whisper can be briefly seen with different dancers' color schemes; the lead dancer is wearing a red jacket instead of a yellow one, and the backup dancers are dressed in a darker shade of pink.

Copacabana

  • Copacabana by Barry Manilow (covered in-game) was supposed to be in the game.[12] It was cut due to unknown reasons.

Dançando

  • Dançando was intended to have a Party Master Mode, which was cancelled before the game release. It can still be found in the game files.[10]

Danse (Pop Version)

  • The coach looks different in its concept art: she has longer hair and lacked her jacket.

Dare

  • In this routine’s appearances Just Dance 2014 in Mashups and Party Master Modes, there is a beta pictogram. This pictogram was also supposed to be used in the remake.

Dummy

  • With the use of a hacked Wii, instead of We Can't Stop appearing in the shop, there is a song called Dummy; if the player downloaded it, they would only get an empty dancer square.

Feel So Right

  • The red highlights on the coach’s outfit were originally going to be blue instead of red, and her glove and her shoes were more ochre than gold. This Beta color scheme is seen in Blurred Lines’s background.
  • A non-golden version of the pictogram for Gold Moves 1 and 2 can be found in the Just Dance Now files.

Feel This Moment

  • In the Just Dance Now files, there are two Beta pictograms, one of which is differently colored, and the other having default colors.
    • There are also four Beta pictograms in the preview, all of which are the same color as Beta pictogram 1.

Follow The Leader

  • The routine had an early version in which the following differences can be noticed:
    • The routine starts with the song title being displayed on a door that opens to reveal the coach in front of the final background, with the camera slowly zooming in.
    • The coach is in her C1 color scheme for the entire routine. Her colors are also less saturated, and her glove is purple instead of sky blue.
      • Due to this, some of the eight beta pictograms found in the old Just Dance Now servers are based on the coach’s C1 color scheme despite portraying moves performed by the coach in her C2 form in the final routine.
    • The background dancers are fully visible.
    • The background has slight differences in terms of colors and light effects.

Follow the Leader (Sweat Version)

  • The routine originally featured a different coach. The choreography was the same, but the moves were performed differently.
  • The sweat version originally had a slightly different color scheme. The dancer’s shirt, pants, and hair were originally dark blue, and his mustache is missing.

Gentleman

  • The routine was originally intended to have C2 perform the entire routine.
    • Additionally, C2’s color scheme was different, and the background featured different sceneries.
    • This outfit is used in the Battle routine.
  • The lyrics were purple instead of sky blue in the E3 build of the game.[13]

Get Lucky

  • Get Lucky was intended to have a Party Master Mode, which was cancelled before the game release. It can still be found in the game files.[10]

  • An earlier version of the routine has a dancer with a different appearance and a slightly different version of the choreography.
  • The Classic routine has some unused pictograms.

I Kissed a Girl

  • The song’s Gold Moves originally were not counted as Gold Moves.
  • The avatar was going to have a different hair look.

  • There is an early version of the routine with a different choreography and a coach in different clothing.

I Need Your Love

  • The song had a different menu icon, which can be seen in the Shop.
    • The coach also seems to be missing her glove on this icon.
  • Two beta pictograms for the song can be found in the Just Dance Now files.

In The Summertime

  • P2, P3, and P4 were originally going to have different colored gloves, as seen when selecting your dancer in the dancer selection screen for the song and on the song’s square; P2’s glove was going to be yellow, P3’s glove was going to be red, and P4’s glove was going to be light pink.
  • All of the coaches originally had green outlines instead of pink outlines, as seen in a screenshot.

Isidora

  • Isidora was intended to have a Party Master Mode, which was cancelled before the game release. It can still be found in the game files.[10]
  • This song has two Beta pictograms.

It’s You

  • It’s You had a different Mashup icon, which has been found in the files. The background is blue with three black silhouettes, and it shows the Sweat coach instead of the Classic one.

I Will Survive

  • The routine originally had a different menu icon, as seen in an early screenshot.
    • Also, in the same screenshot, it is seen that the dancer was supposed to have a purple glove instead of a cyan one.

Just Dance

  • In an early avatar, it was shown that Icona Shard originally had longer hair and had no ponytail.

Kiss You (6-Player)

  • A pictogram with default colors and crudely cropped outlines can be seen in a promotional image.

Limbo

  • Limbo has a total of 25 Beta pictograms.
  • In a Beta picture showing all avatars from Just Dance Now, P1’s avatar didn't have its collar nor its tie.

  • Love Boat was going to have a different choreography, as shown in the Just Dance Now files.

Man Down

  • Man Down by Rihanna was meant to be featured in the game, but was removed before the release for unknown reasons. The dancer makes an appearance in Blurred Lines’ background.

  • Miss Understood was intended to have a Party Master Mode, which was cancelled before the game release. It can still be found in the game files.[10]

Nitro Bot/Robot Rock

  • Robot Rock by Daft Punk was supposed to be featured in the game, but it was scrapped and later replaced with Nitro Bot for unknown reasons.
    • Other evidence shows that the codename for Nitro Bot is 'RobotRock' and the scrapped song matches the routine perfectly.
  • An unused menu icon can be found in the UAT servers of the game.

On the Floor

  • On the Floor was intended to return in Just Dance 2014 as a DLC, but the plan was ultimately scrapped for unknown reasons. This fact is proven by the following details:
    • In the Just Dance Now files, the menu icon has the glass effect that can be seen in all of the Just Dance 2014 and Just Dance Wii U menu icons (including the downloadable tracks for Just Dance 2014), despite the song not being featured in either game.
    • The .json file from the Just Dance Now servers is structured int the same way as those for Just Dance 2014 routines (including returning DLC’s), as the difficulty rating is in letters (in this case, "Easy") and a string called "NumCoach" can be found.[15]

One Way Or Another (Teenage Kicks)

  • The Just Dance Now files feature an unused pictogram, which is similar to its final counterpart but has a differently positioned arrow.

Pound The Alarm

  • On the menu icon, P2’s leotard is yellow and blue instead of yellow and dark purple.
  • Gold Moves 2, 4 and 5 were not supposed to be Gold Moves.

  • Basing off an early screenshot, the coach’s outline was pink and glowy instead of white and thick before the routine release. This is also the case with the menu assets.
    • Another promotional screenshot shows her with a thicker version of the Beta outline.

Run Dem Boyz

  • Run Dem Boyz by Anja featuring Sonja Blade was planned to be in the game, but the song was ultimately scrapped for unknown reasons, according to a post in Anja’s official facebook account where the now-deleted demo has "Just Dance 2014" in the title.[16].
    • However, the song later got officially released on January 1st 2021, it was postponed due to Run Dem Boyz getting cut from Just Dance 2014’s final game.

Safe And Sound

  • C5's hair was supposed to be longer.
  • There are some beta pictures where C1 performs the second move differently.
  • Safe And Sound was intended to have a Party Master Mode and a Mashup, both of which were cancelled before the game release. They can still be found in the game files.[10]
