Menu and Design
Just Dance 2019 introduces the first major alteration to the menu interface since Just Dance 2016. The overall aesthetic is minimalistic and modern, using plain white backgrounds as a base and including more rounded shapes in menu elements and prompts.
Kids Mode has been unaltered in function, aside from hiding songs only available with a Just Dance Unlimited subscription unless a subscription is active. This change was patched in on December 20, 2018 in response to negative press the mode received in regards to the display of the songs acting as tantalization for children to subscribe.
Just Dance Mode is organized into five tabs: "Home", "Playlists", "Songs", "Search", and "Profile". "Home" provides tailored recommendations along with serving tips and pointing to new content including limited-time videos. "Playlists" includes an assorted selection of prefabricated lists along with 3 constants ("Recommended for You", "Top Country", and "Discovery").
"Songs" allows for the à la carte selection of tracks, displaying the song’s difficulty and effort ratings (dependent on whether Sweat Mode is activated), its game tag, its version tag (if applicable), the personal high score and rating (or calories burned and session duration if Sweat Mode is activated), and the details for the Dancer of the Week, the replacement for Leaderboards. "Search" uses a vertical scrolling in-game set of characters (filtering down to choices with results as characters are entered) replacing console keyboard input from the prior game, with results split into subcategories depending on if a relevant tag other than Title is used. "Profile" acts as a repository for customization and progression along with housing the settings and credits for both the game and songs. World Dance Floor, formerly selected through the root menu, has been relocated to the Home tab.
The content selection interface has received a major alteration: instead of a linear list, songs are arranged in rows of five (playlists into rows of three that expand into a single extendable row of all contained songs) that can be traversed both horizontally and vertically, with buttons available to jump between subdivisions.
Menu sorts are now a part of song selection: "Catalog" (the default sort, which is an alphabetical listing that subdivides Just Dance 2019’s content from Just Dance Unlimited’s), "Number of dancers", "Difficulty" (which subdivides dependent on whether Sweat Mode is activated), and "Alphabetical". In addition, songs now utilize video previews for the first time since the Xbox 360 release of Just Dance 3. The Gift Machine has had its animations sped up and the new titles replace the defunct skins as rewards that can be obtained through it.
Wii
The menu has remained the same as previous games for the Wii/Xbox 360 versions. All online features such as the Wall and World Dance Floor have been removed.

Reception
Nintendo Life gave Just Dance 2019 a 7 out of 10, noting that its stripped-down experience was "a strange shift to behold, suggesting that the game is trying to adapt to a new Spotify-using, social media-loving, older teen audience, or maybe growing up alongside those who have supported it from the beginning", and also acknowledged Ubisoft’s continued emphasis on pushing its subscription-based offerings for the franchise, as well as performance issues and the removal of Just Dance Controller app support on the Nintendo Switch version.[3]
Just Dance 2019 received "generally favorable" and "mixed or average" reviews on Metacritic holding a metascore of 77/100 on PS4[4] and Xbox One[5] and 72/100 on Nintendo Switch.[6]

- However, both 7th-Gen and 8th-Gen versions have some assets from Just Dance 2018.
- 7th-generation consoles have all of the Just Dance 2015 assets reused, including the text fonts and the Gold Move effect.
- Just Dance 2019 is the first game in the western Just Dance series to have an official release in Japan. However, it uses the English version of the game and it is not localized or translated into Japanese unlike the previous titles (particularly the ones released on Nintendo consoles). It is also planned to be released as a digital Nintendo Switch exclusive.[7]
- It was planned to be released on March 20, 2019.
- Just Dance 2019 is the only year-titled main series game, as well as the first game since the PAL release of Just Dance 4 to be region-free on the Xbox 360, as the NTSC release of Just Dance 4 and both the NTSC and PAL releases of previous year-titled installments were region-locked, which only allowed NTSC copies to work on NTSC-U consoles and PAL copies to work on PAL and NTSC-J consoles.
- In addition, the rating board stated on the start-up is based on the country in the player’s console settings rather than the copy of the game like it was for previous games in the series. If the country is located in the NTSC-U region, it will display the ESRB warning. If the country is located in the PAL or NTSC-J regions, it will display the PEGI warning.
- This is the first game since Just Dance 2 to have coaches in oddly placed areas on the menu squares.
- Just Dance 2019 is the first game to have a publicly announced song removed from the game (in this case, Dame Tu Cosita).
- Most of the Gold Move pictograms in Just Dance 2019 have a thicker outline than usual Gold Move pictograms.

- Just Dance 2019 is the first game to feature two teasers for the same song (in this case, Work Work and On Ne Porte Pas De Sous-Vêtements).
- Just Dance 2019 is the first game in the main series to be rated E by the ESRB.
- It would have been the second if Just Dance 2 kept its original ESRB rating (E).[8]
- Just Dance 2019 is the second game in the series to have a song removed from the main tracklist after the game was released (in this case, Nice For What).
- However, it is the first game where the song was permanently removed.
- This only happens on 8th-generation consoles, Nintendo Switch, and newer versions of Wii copies of the game.
- Just Dance 2019 is the first game since Just Dance 2015 to have publicly announced alternate routines before the game’s release.
- During the E3 and Gamescom presentations, dancers wearing the following costumes appeared:
- A Panda coach.
- The coach of I Feel It Coming.
- P1 of Mad Love.
- P1 of Fire.
- The coach of Adeyyo.
- P2 of Sweet Sensation.
- P2 of Jingle Bells *.
- During the E3 performance, instrumental versions of the following songs were performed by a marching band in this order:
- Just Dance 2019 is the first game in the franchise to feature an avatar for every coach in the game.
- Just Dance 2019 ties with Just Dance 2017 for the most linguistically diverse game in the series, featuring songs performed in eleven languages: English, Spanish, Arabic, Portuguese, Korean, Russian, French, Polish, Chinese, Turkish, and Swahili.
- Just Dance 2019 is the first game to not feature all of Just Dance 2015’s online features on 7th-generation consoles. This includes the World Dance Floor, the Just Dance Wall, Challenge Mode, and Autodance sharing.
- However, Autodances can still be saved locally, as a hard drive is required for the feature on the Xbox 360.
- This is because of the shutdown of the online servers on all Just Dance games from Just Dance 2014 to Just Dance 2018 on 7th-generation consoles, as well as Just Dance 2014 and Just Dance 2015 on 8th-generation consoles.[9]
- Just Dance 2019 is the second game in the main series in which the Xbox 360 version of the game lists the songs in alphabetical order, after Just Dance 3.
- However, A Little Party Never Killed Nobody (All We Got) is placed in the middle of the menu as if it started with an L, Calypso is placed before Ça Plane Pour Moi, and Where Are You Now? is placed after Work Work.
- Similar to the previous four games on seventh-generation consoles, Just Dance 2019 has messages that present themselves when an alternate routine is unlocked. The messages attributed to each routine, in order of when they are unlocked, are as follows:
- Finesse (Remix)—It’s going to get lively in there!
- Bum Bum Tam Tam—Once science meets the power of dance!
- Bang Bang Bang—Show your skill!
- Water Me—Serve, volley and smash!

- Just Dance 2019 is the fourth game in the series to have Korean text support, after the Korean releases of Just Dance 2, Just Dance 3, and the addition of Korean text support for Just Dance Now.
- However, it does not apply to 7th-generation consoles.
- In 7th-generation consoles, the background from the Extreme routines in Just Dance 2014 shows up during the transition from an Extreme Version ending to its score screen.
- Contrary to previous demo versions, the one for Just Dance 2019 is structured like the final game. However, every routine besides One Kiss is locked, pictures similar to Just Dance Now covers replace previews and online features are disabled.
- The menu icons for Nice For What and Make Me Feel make an appearance in the demo trailer, although neither of them are featured in it.
- Every routine in the game has one, two or three Gold Moves. The only exception is Finesse (Remix)’s Extreme Version, which has 4.
- In the previews for Mama Mia, Shaky Shaky, Narco, Mad Love, Fire, and Havana, Happy and Funky’s colors are switched and Jazzy and Crazy’s colors are switched.
- Just Dance 2019 is the second game to have an alternate routine for a song featured in a previous game (in this case, Swish Swish).
- It is preceded by Just Dance 2017 (which has alternate routines for Chiwawa and Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go).
- Although loading screens and coach selection screens only apply the menu color 1A on banners, the Just Dance Now .json files have hexadecimals for all four menu colors.
- Just Dance 2019 is the last Just Dance title released on Xbox 360 and Wii U, as well as the final video game released on both platforms.
- Just Dance 2019 is the eighth game in the series to be nominated for Favorite Video Game at the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards.
- Just Dance 2019 will be playable on the upcoming console, the Nintendo Switch Lite, but original Joy-Cons will be required to be connected to the console to play.
- This also applies to other games in the series available on the Nintendo Switch.
- There is a glitch in the game in which the Recommended for You, Top Country and Discovery playlists will only show, in order:[10]
- All of the routines in the main tracklist and Kids Mode of Just Dance 2018, as well as Acceptable in the 80s and Movement is Happiness (Find Your Thing), can be found in the files of the game.
