Just Dance 3 is a dance game developed and published by Ubisoft. It is the third game in the series and the first to be released on the Xbox 360 and the PS3. The game was released on October 7, 2011, with the PS3 version being released on December 6, 2011.
Gameplay
Like the previous games, the game focuses on up to four players who mimic on-screen dance moves. In the Wii and PS3 version, the player must hold the Wii Remote or the PlayStation Move controller while dancing, and in the Xbox 360 version, the player must be detected by Kinect. Along with the solo and duet modes, there is a Dance Crew mode which allows four players to dance together. Dance Mashups combine different and previous dance routines to different songs. Modes that make a return include Non-Stop Shuffle, Speed Shuffle, and Just Sweat Mode.
The Wii and PlayStation 3 versions have a Hold My Hand dance mode, where up to 8 players can play sharing four controllers. On the Xbox 360, there is also a mode called "Just Create" which allows players to link together their own moves into a custom routine for a song.
Another Xbox 360 exclusive mode is named Dance Off, and it looks similar to Just Create; at some points, the game asks you to dance freely to a certain point of the song, and then it replays it.

Rating Summary: This is a rhythm-and-dance simulation game in which players perform dance steps by following the movements of on-screen characters. Players score points by accurately moving their bodies in time with the music and scrolling indicators. Some song lyrics contain the words “damn” and “hell,” while other songs reference suggestive material (e.g., "Promiscuous girl, you're teasing me", "I want you to love me like I'm a hot ride", and "Show me a sexy dance)".
Trivia
General
- Just Dance 3 is a Guinness World Records holder for being the best-selling casual game, the best-selling third party game on the Wii and the best-selling dance video game (with 12.87 million copies sold as of 31 March 2016).[3][4][5]
- Just Dance 3 was the second game in the series to be nominated for Favorite Video Game at the Kids Choice Awards.
- There are some beta dancers on the PAL box art, including a pair of dancers with glasses and red and blue suits.
- The coach of Barbra Streisand appears on the NTSC box art in a different color scheme.
- Just Dance 3 has a PlayStation Plus exclusive trial on the PlayStation 3. It is a 60 minute full game trial that expires 1 year from activation, if the game is not booted. Once the trial ends, the full game must be purchased and redownloaded to keep the trophies.
- The PlayStation 3 version of Just Dance 3 still has files which reference the Wii.[6]
- On August 20, 2023, the game, along with all its DLC (with the exception of Baby Girl) has been removed from the Xbox 360 Marketplace.
- As of July 29, 2024, Xbox 360 store and Marketplace has shut down.
- Just Dance 3 is the first game in the series where the performers are painted white before filming.
In-Game Content
This section needs cleanup! You can help by removing any errors.
- Just Dance 3 was the first game in the series to apply camera effects to routines. Examples include Pump It and Baby Don’t Stop Now.
- Just Dance 3 was the first game to include an Extreme routine, a Sweat routine, a Hold My Hand routine, and Mashups.
- On the PlayStation 3 version of the game, an option is available in the menu to have the lyrics highlighted in karaoke-style. They are highlighted in blue when a male is singing and pink when a female is singing, in a similar fashion to the first two games of the Japanese Just Dance series.[7] Thus, the PS3 version of Just Dance 3 marks the first time in the main series where lyrics are highlighted, which would become another recurring feature in later games. The only difference is the display of the gender who is being heard (blue and green for males, pink for females) to the left of the lyrics.
- Just Dance 3 was the last game in the main series whose pictogram bar simply consists of a flashing triangle on the bottom right corner of the screen. From Just Dance 4 onwards, the bar consists of a line with a rectangle that flashes with a smoother animation.
- Just Dance 3 marks the first Just Dance game to use Ubisoft’s reward system, Uplay, which was later known as Ubisoft Club, then later merged with the Uplay PC client to be known as Ubisoft Connect.
- It was only available on the Xbox 360 version.
- It would later be used in future main Just Dance games on every system except for the Wii.
- Starting with Just Dance 2018, Switch players can log in to Ubisoft Connect.
- However, Xbox 360 and PS3 players will not be able to login to Ubisoft Connect due to the feature being removed. The last game to use that feature on 7th-Gen consoles was Just Dance 2017.
- Just Dance 3 was the last game in the series to have a Korean-language version, until Just Dance Now and Just Dance 2019 added Korean text support.
- The Korean version of Just Dance 3 is only available for the Wii and has a different font from the other versions.
- 645 Mojo points/stars are required to unlock every routine.
- When words are censored in the lyrics, they are not replaced by ellipses in-game, unless the song is a downloadable track that debuted in a previous game.
- This was fixed in the songs from Just Dance 3 that returned on Just Dance Now and Just Dance Unlimited.
- If the player plays a Duet or Dance Crew before unlocking the Solo Medley, P1 of the Duet or Dance Crew will be shown in the coach selection menu instead of the correct dancer.
- On the PS3 version of the game, the store is not available. Instead, it was replaced by PS3 song exclusives.
- Also, the lyrics appear a little farther than on the Wii version.
- The menu icons appear as squares in the game files but are cropped into circles in-game.
- On the Xbox 360 version of the game, the Gold Move effect comes in more slowly, and a few seconds pass before the second part is played.
- If the Gold Move has not been performed correctly, the second part of the Gold Move effect will not be played at all.
- On the Xbox 360, the following line in the lyrics is more faded and further down from the top line than on the PS3 or the Wii.
- On the PS3 version, the PlayStation Move ball will glow a different color based on how well a move is performed, as well as the player's color beating to the music in white.
- The Xbox 360 has a "Shout Out" feature, where certain lines are highlighted blue, and when they are about to appear a blue megaphone bubble pops up above the lyrics. This symbol changes to either a blue "PERFECT" or an X depending on how well the player sings the line into the Kinect sensor. This can score the player bonus points and Mojo.
- After the routine ends and the scores are shown, in the bottom left corner, if a megaphone and a star appear, it means the player received bonus points for the Shout Out lines.
- The Shout Out feature is also present in Just Dance: Greatest Hits/Best Of, whose gameplay is virtually identical to Just Dance 3’s.
- Following the Shout Out feature, Just Dance 4 onwards included a karaoke feature whenever there is a microphone connected regardless of console. The difference is that instead of only selected lines, the later karaoke feature works for the whole song, and "GOOD" and "OK" scores could also be obtained.
- However, in Just Dance 4, the karaoke feature is only available on the Wii U.
- Just Sweat now supports four players in the game, unlike in Just Dance 2, where only one player could use Just Sweat at a time.
- On the Xbox 360 version of the game, Jazzy, Crazy, and Funky are not matching their correct color. Funky is green instead of purple, Crazy is red instead of green, and Jazzy is purple instead of red. This was due to the Kinect showing a second player as purple, a third player as red and a fourth player as green, after the first player being shown as blue.
- The Speed Shuffle mode glitches a bit on Wii: sometimes, the Gold Move effect doesn not appear and the coach fades out without the smooth transition.
- Similar to Just Dance 2, the start screen will turn golden if the player has earned five stars on every song. This will only happen on the Wii version.
- When downloading the game on the Xbox 360 Marketplace in PAL regions, the NTSC cover art is shown as the cover art.
- However, the PAL cover art is shown when downloading DLC.
- On the Xbox 360, the NTSC and PAL discs have exactly the same contents. Therefore, all six songs that are exclusive to special editions and the PAL region are on all disc copies of the game, including NTSC copies, and are unlocked based on either the player redeeming a code listed on a page inside the disc case via the Unlock Code option in the Extras menu[8] or the game detecting the PAL or NTSC-J region code of the console. They will also show an exclamation mark when they have yet to be selected from the menu.[9]
- A code is required to unlock E.T. and Teenage Dream on both regions, or to unlock Airplanes and Only Girl (In The World) on NTSC-U consoles. On PAL and NTSC-J Xbox 360 consoles, Airplanes, Marcia Baila, Only Girl (In The World), and Satellite unlock themselves automatically when the game detects the PAL region code of the console. Automatic PAL and NTSC-J region unlockables are added to the profile as well once the player is signed in with that profile in-game on a PAL or NTSC-J Xbox 360.
- As unlockable tracks are also stored in the Xbox 360 gamertag profile when unlocked, if the player has unlocked any songs on one region’s console, they will appear on the other region if they sign in to Xbox Live to download their profile on the other region's console and use it to sign in in-game. This also allows Marcia Baila and Satellite to be played in the NTSC version.[10]
- Sometimes, the menu glitches on Wii: when the players clicks on the arrows, they will not scroll.[11]
- On the Wii and PS3, the score bar has bubbles which appear as it fills up. This bubble effect was absent on the Xbox 360.
- The flashing triangle indicating the end of the pictogram slider is in different styles and positions depending on the console:
- On the Xbox 360, it is further up than other consoles.
- On all consoles the triangle has more rounded corners than Just Dance or Just Dance 2, especially on the Xbox 360.
- The pictograms now zoom and fade at the triangle instead of simply disappearing.
- In the Xbox 360 version, it only fades. Furthermore, it fades in when a pictogram is shown instead of being shown instantly, as with the other versions, as well as other games in the series.
- The triangle was smaller and curved at the bottom in promotional material for the game.
- For Dance Crews, the triangle is further to the left than other routines, near the middle of the screen.
- The Xbox 360 version of Just Dance 3 runs at 30fps while the Wii and PS3 versions run at 60fps.
- Also, the Ubisoft logo animation movie is different than its normal version in the Xbox 360 version.
- Cheesy Cha Cha by Christian Padovan and Cheesy Voices Remix by Laurent Lombard can be heard in the credits of Just Dance 3 in the Wii and PS3 versions.[12]
- The Xbox 360 background for the Mashups is different to the one used for the Wii and PS3 versions of the game.
- On November 11, 2017, Just Dance 3’s Xbox 360 server as well as the Xbox 360 server for Just Dance: Greatest Hits and the Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii U servers for Just Dance 4 were discontinued.[13] The features affected by this are the ability to redeem Ubisoft Club content, unlock songs exclusive to special brand exclusive editions, view higher scores from Xbox Live friends next to songs on the player's track list, and distribute and download Just Create routines over the internet.
- Airplanes and Only Girl (In The World) can still be unlocked if the player’s Xbox 360 is PAL, as the game will detect the region code of the console to unlock these songs to the profile along with Marcia Baila and Satellite due to the former pair of songs being Xbox 360 exclusive tracks in the PAL region.
- All of the brand/regional exclusives can still be obtained on the Xbox 360 by modding your Xbox profile, due to songs being saved on the the Xbox Gamer Profile's GDP file.
- As of January 31, 2019, downloadable tracks are no longer obtainable for the Wii version of this game due to the discontinuation of the Wii Shop Channel and Nintendo WFC Pay & Play services. The ability to add Wii Points has been removed on March 26, 2018.
- Despite this, users can still download Firework in the previous game and the exclusive songs too.
- The scoring effect used in-game would later be added as an unlockable on the Just Dance service, added with the release of Just Dance 2025 Edition.
