This is what a good article should look like (its contents and arrangement). Refer to this page if you have any questions on what to edit. (note that this is meant mostly for song articles, guides for other types of pages are in the process of being made)

Alternate Routine pages are very similar to song pages. For a version of this page tailored for alternates, see Just Dance Wiki:Good Article/Alternates. Additionally, see this page for more details on differences between the two.

The guide for season pages can be seen here. The guide for games can be seen here.

"(Song title)" by {{Wp|(song artist)}}, covered by (cover artist) (if applicable), is featured on Game 1, Game 2, and Game 3 (subsequent games only if applicable).

Songs from the Japanese series with Japanese titles should be start with "Japanese name" ("Romanji name"). Chinese-titled songs from the Chinese series that have not appeared in the main series should start with how they appear or would appear in 舞力全开: "Chinese name (Name in in-game modified Pinyin)". Chinese-titled songs appearing in the main series should start with how they appear in-game: "English Title (Chinese title)". Alternate names may be listed if they are notable or appear in the game files. For example: "最炫民族风 (Zui Xuan Min Zu Feng)" (also known as "Coolest Ethnic" and "The Coolest Ethnic Trend").

The song also has an alternate routine. (Link to the alternate routine's page)

Infobox

When you fill an infobox up, please follow the notes below.

Name

  • If the song title matches the page title, leave this section blank as it will be filled in by default.
  • If the song is part of an Asian spinoff (such as Just Dance Wii U), the Japanese title must be used instead of the English or romanized one. Be sure to add the Hidden Text template, in order to show the romanized version of the title (e.g.: {{ht|つけまつける|Tsukematsukeru}}).

Image(s)

  • Screenshots of the routine can be taken from preview or gameplay videos, as long as there are no watermarks or Beta elements (in the case of previews).
    • Screenshots must show at least one pictogram (if possible) and lyrics with at least one or two highlighted letters (if possible).
    • Screenshots must have a quality of at least 720p (if possible).
  • Promotional gameplays must not be used.
  • If a routine received graphical changes in different games, use the <gallery> code
    • When you use the Tabber code, be sure the featured screenshots all show the same part of the routine, so that comparisons can be done more easily.
<gallery>Picture.png|Game 1
Picture 2.png|Game 2</gallery>

Game(s)

Artist(s)

  • Always create a hyperlink to the artist’s Wikipedia page by using the Wp or Wp2 template.
  • Artists should be credited, as far as possible, without stylization. When in doubt, refer to their Wikipedia name.
    • Artists like IOWA will be reflected in all-caps, but artists like Psy (stylized as PSY) will not.
  • When the song is covered, write {{ht|*|Covered}} near the artist’s name. The cover artist’s name goes below.

From (Album/TV/Movie)

  • If the song is from an album (excluding soundtrack albums), write "album" in the "from" section.
    • In the "tvfilm" section, the album title must be written in italics by using the Wp or Wp2 template (where possible).
    • One album per credited artist; the album listed should be the earliest of the artist's albums to feature the song. (For example, the only album for So What that should be listed is Funhouse, and not Greatest Hits... So Far!!!.)
  • If the song appears on multiple albums (again excluding soundtracks or compilations), write "albums" in the "from" section.
    • In the "tvfilm" section, write all the album titles in numerical, then alphabetical, order, separating them with a " • " (include the spaces before and after the bullet).
  • If the song is from a movie or a TV program, write "movie" or "TV" in the "from" section.
    • In the "tvfilm" section, instead, the program/movie title must be written in italics by using the Wp or Wp2 template.
  • If a song appears in a soundtrack album as well as in an artist’s album, only name the movie to which the earliest soundtrack belongs, i.e. do not name the artist’s album and do not name more than one movie. (See Boom Clap)

Year

  • If the song is covered, put the year of the covered version under the year of the original one.
  • The year should correspond to when the song was first released, which is not necessarily when it was released as a single.
    • For example, if a song was released on an album from December 2020 but was released as a single in February 2021, the year should be listed as 2020 unless the single version is different and the game uses that version.

Release Date(s)

  • In this section, you must write the date(s) of release of the routine(s) on Just Dance 2 to Just Dance 2015 as a DLC, or on Just Dance Now and Just Dance Unlimited.
    • This must not be done for songs present on-disc from day 1 (i.e., not added via Internet or an update).
  • If there are different release dates for two or more different routines, separate them by writing "Classic" or "Mashup" above them.
  • If the song has multiple release dates for the same game, leave a link to the release history section of the page instead.

Dancer Gender(s)

  • Always use the Male or Female templates if applicable.
    • If the routine is a Duet, a Trio or a Dance Crew, separate the templates with a slash (/).
    • If the coach changes, use a hyphen (-).
    • If no genders are known, leave this section blank.
      • If some genders are known, list the known ones and denote the others with a question mark.

Difficulty/Effort

  • If the Difficulty/Effort rating is expressed with a number, write {{ht|1|(name)}}.
  • If the Classic routine and a Mashup should share the same difficulty, effort, or both, separate them, e.g. "Easy (Classic)<br>Easy (Mashup)".

Number of Gold Moves

  • If the Classic routine and the Mashup should share the same number of Gold Moves, separate the counts, e.g. "2 (Classic)<br>2 (Mashup)".
  • If a routine has more than one dancer, use "X each", where X represents the number of Gold Moves in that routine.
  • If a routine in a game with Gold Moves (i.e. not Just Dance, Just Dance Kids, or Just Dance 4 Mashups) has no Gold Moves, write "None".
  • If a routine has an uneven distribution of Gold Moves across multiple coaches, write "X/Y/Z", where X, Y and Z represent the Gold Moves for P1, P2 and P3 respectively.

Shout-Out Lines

List in the following format:

  1. State the lyric
  2. Provide timestamps (m:ss) with reference to the gameplay, not the video as a whole (i.e. ignore menu footage)

For example: "California Gurls" <small>(1:33, 2:10)</small>

For songs with multiple different lines: "California Gurls" <small>(1:33, 2:10)</small><br>"Ooh" <small>(1:35)</small>

It should look like this: "California Gurls" (1:33, 2:10)

Menu Colors

  • Menu colors work differently depending on where they are used.
    • In Just Dance 4, they appear behind the menu icon when the preview audio starts (only on Wii, Wii U and PS3).
      • In this case, simply write one menu color.
    • In Just Dance 2017/2018, there are four of them:
      • 1A (under the menu banner)
      • 1B (behind the menu icons)
      • 2A (on the left side of the playlists banner)
      • 2B (on the right side of the playlists banner)
        • In this case, separate them by writing 1A: (color)<br>1B: (color)<br>2A: (color)<br>2B:(color)
    • In Kids Mode, one menu color is used on menu icons as a replacement for the actual background.
      • In this case, write simply one menu color.
  • Separate menu colors according to their game by writing "JD4", "JDU" or "Kids Mode" above them.
    • Just Dance 2017 and Just Dance 2018 usually display the same menu colors, so do not write "JD2017" or "JD2018" (unless there are differences).

Pictogram/Glove Color(s)

  • If the pictogram color changes throughout the routine, write "(color) to (color)".

Lyrics Color

  • For instrumental songs, simply write Instrumental.
  • If lyrics are not highlighted, please leave this section blank.

Mashup

  • If the Mashup is a regular Mashup, simply write "Available on all consoles" or "Available on (console)".
  • If the Mashup is a Sweat Mashup, write "Sweat Mashup".
  • If the Mashup is only unlockable in a certain month, write "Unlockable in (month)".
  • If the Mashup has a theme, write it in this section.

Alternate(s)

  • Write the caption used for the alternate routine(s) here.

Pictogram Count

  • Write how many pictograms are shown in the pictogram slide for each routine.
    • Repeated pictograms must be counted.

Preview Audio

  • Simply put a link to the audio file for the song.
    • If the song has an Alternate routine, there is no need to upload an audio file for both of them (unless they play different parts of the song).

Choreographed/Performed By

  • Create an hyperlink to the choreographer/performer’s category by writing [[:Category:(Name Surname)|(Name Surname)]].
  • Always leave a reliable proof by using the <ref> code.
    • rfmckinleyport gameplays’s Real Dancers Behind the Scenes videos can be used as proof, but direct confirmation from the dancers/choreographers/etc. is preferred.
    • When the same source is used to prove the choreographer(s) and the performer(s), write <ref name="choreo/perf">, so that both numbers lead to the same reference.

Appearance of the Dancers

Be sure to add images of the coaches, and if there is only one coach, it is not necessary to put any P1.

For solo routines with only one coach selection image (i.e., solo routine with the same image across games, no remakes) place the coach to the left of the description. For other routines, place the coaches in a gallery below the description of the final dancer.

All descriptions must be in statement form ending with proper punctuation, and not bullet points.

Mashup

It is imperative that each and every dancer in the routine is put in the list by chronological order of appearance.

If it is a Sweat Mashup, all references to this song’s Mashup should be cited as "Sweat Mashup".

(Song title) has a Mashup [with the theme "X" (if the Mashup has a theme)] on Game.

Dancers

  • Song 1
  • Song 2 [GM1]
  • Song 3
  • Song 4
  • Song 1
  • Song 5

and it goes on until the end. Let's say Song 1 doesn't appear in its own Mashup; then, Song 1 should be left unbolded. Games in brackets should not be put beside the song; this means that something like Song 3 (JD3) should not be in the section.

Puppet Master Mode (or Party Master Mode)

(Song title) has a Puppet/Party Master Mode (specify which one). Here are the dancers in order of appearance.
(Captions in bold indicate a Song Switch.) (Note this is not applicable for Just Dance 4)

Option 1 Option 2 Option 3 Option 4
Song 1
Caption 1 Caption 2 Caption 3 Caption 4
  • Link all captions to the dancer that does them.
  • For Puppet Master routines (Just Dance 4), list Just Dance through Just Dance 4 in the column headers instead of Option 1-4.

Battle

X has a Battle against Y. For the battle, click [[X vs. Y|here]].

Gold Moves

  • Users are advised to use Giphy or MakeAGif (with "Remove MakeAGif watermark" enabled) to produce .gifs for Gold Moves. These .gifs must show the entire effect, in order to make the Gold Move clear
  • When describing Gold Moves, use second-person pronouns (e.g. you, your).
  • Be as generic and literal as possible with descriptions, i.e. refrain from vague similes or metaphors.
  • Separate the Gold Move description from the introduction by typing <br /> before starting the new line.
  • Galleries must be adapted to the number of unique Gold Moves in the routine. For example, Error has two Gold Moves, so the gallery must have two columns, so that the .gif is displayed next to the picture of its related pictogram.

Classic

There are X Gold Moves in the Classic routine:

Gold Move x: (insert description of Gold Move 1)
Gold Move x: (insert description of Gold Move 2)

Insert gallery showing the Gold Move pictograms and their related .gifs.

Mashup

There are X Gold Moves in the Mashup:

Gold Move x: (insert description of Gold Move x)
Gold Move x: (insert description of Gold Move x)

Insert gallery showing the Gold Move pictograms and their related .gifs.
NOTE: the .gifs must be created using the Mashup video, and not the original routine the dancer comes from.

  • Added, removed, and then re-added to the same service for at least one service (i.e. JDN/JDU)
  • Would otherwise have 3 or more rows tagged with "(JDU)" and/or "(NOW)" in the "Release Date" section in the infobox for whatever reason, e.g. international releases etc.

This section details the release and removal history of {{PAGENAME}}.

The table should have the following columns: Game / Date Added / Date Removed

Under the game section, "Rowspan" should be used to merge the rows that represent the same game

Trivia

Editing Rules

  • (Add relevant, unbiased trivia info)
  • do not add the following:
    • first and onlies - e.g. This is the first song by Bebe Rexha in the game. (unless the artist has had more songs in the series) OR This is the first and only song by Michael Jackson in the game.
    • non-censored words - e.g. "(Word)" is not censored (even though it should have been).
  • Do not use short forms like JD4, JDWii etc.
  • Do not hyperlink the same article in the trivia more than once.
  • When quoting words, such as in the following examples, use only double-inverted commas (quotation marks). Do not use italics except for emphasis.
    • "F**k" is censored. (Not "F**k is censored.")
    • The line "Back backseat of my car" is censored. (Not "Back back seat of my car is censored.")
  • When stating how many songs an artist has made, do not list the artist’ entire discography. Additionally, link the artist’s artist category.
    • The Greatest is the fourth song by Sia in the series.
  • When using "series", it refers to the main series 1-2022 and onwards; use "franchise" to refer to the entire Just Dance franchise. Specifically list the songs of that artist’s discography that fall outside of the series.
    • Including Wild Ones, The Greatest is the fifth song by Sia in the franchise.

Sub-Sections

The Trivia section must be divided into the following sub-sections:

  • General, for Trivia points that can be applied to both/all routines (e.g. "Bang Bang Bang is the second song by BIGBANG in the series.")
    • Facts about lyrics and credits usually belong to General because, in most cases, the same string of code is used for all routines associated to the same song. This does not apply if the fact only involves one of them (e.g.: "In Fine China (Extreme), "favourite" is spelled as "favorite.").
  • Classic
  • Mashup
  • Puppet/Party Master Mode
  • Community Remix

"General" and "Classic" must each have at least three bullets each in order for the division to be applied, while all the other sub-sections must have at least one.

Alternatively, if the song has trivia points for Classic and at least one other routine (e.g. Mashup, Community Remix or Puppet/Party Master), the split can be performed as long as there are at least three trivia points total between Classic and that other section. Trivia for alternate routines should be placed in the trivia section of the alternate routine’s page.

In every sub-section, Trivia points must be ordered like this:

  • Records (e.g.: "Why Oh Why is the first song that features a cutscene.")
  • General (which can be applied to all versions, e.g.: "The coach’s glove glitches throughout the routine.")
  • Related to the development phase of the first game that features (Song) (e.g.: "In the preview, the pictograms have default colors." or "In the thumbnail/promotional image, the coach has a different color scheme.")
  • Related to the first game (Song) is featured in (e.g. Trivia points about the Just Dance 3 version of Baby One More Time)
  • Related to the second game (Song) is featured in
  • Related to all versions of the remake of (Song)
  • Related to Just Dance Now
  • Related to all versions of Just Dance Unlimited
  • Related to Just Dance Unlimited via the first game (Song) was available in
  • Related to Just Dance Unlimited via the second game (Song) was available in
  • Etc.

Gallery

SORT according to type of images, e.g.

Game Files

This sub-gallery includes menu squares, album coaches, avatars and pictograms. Beta elements that are present in the game files must be added to the Beta Elements sub-gallery.

For songs with avatars in games outside of Just Dance 2015-Present, the avatars should be tagged as "Avatar ({{G|game}})", for example "P1’s avatar ({{G|4}})". The tag for "Avatar ({{G|2015}}))" should not be used.

In-Game Screenshots

This sub-gallery includes entire screenshots of in-game content (such as menus, loading screens and coach selection screens). Gameplay screenshots (both from previews and actual gameplay videos) can be added here; cropped screenshots and no-GUI gameplay pictures, must be added to Others instead.

In-game screenshots should be captioned in the format "[song] in the [game] menu", where [game] can be substituted with {{G|2015}}, {{G|2016}}, {{G|2017}} etc., but not with {{G|jdu}}. The G2 template should be used if it is not the first time the game was mentioned in the entire gallery.

For screenshots in articles for songs with alternate routines, the format should be as follows: "[what the screenshot is of]<br>(Routine Name)", e.g. "Loading screen<br>(Classic)".

For screenshots in articles for songs which appear in multiple games, the format should be as follows: "[what the screenshot is of]<br>(Game, using {{G}} or {{G2}})", e.g. "Loading screen<br>({{G2|2019}})".

For screenshots in articles for songs with alternate routines (that do not qualify for a separate page, such as a mashup or Community Remix) and which appear in multiple games, the format should be as follows: "(Game, using {{G}} or {{G2}}) [what the screenshot is of]<br>(Routine Name)", e.g. "{{G2|2017}} loading screen<br>(Community Remix)".

Promotional Images

This sub-gallery includes promotional images (such as promotional gameplays, promotional coaches and teasers).

Behind the Scenes

This sub-gallery includes Behind-the-Scenes pictures, concept arts and creative briefs.

Beta Elements

This sub-gallery includes unused game elements.

Others

This sub-gallery includes other miscellaneous images related to the page (such as YouTube thumbnails, backgrounds and cropped screenshots).

Videos

SORT according to type of videos, e.g.

Official Music Video/Audio

This sub-gallery includes the official music video or audio for the song. As far as possible, limit this sub-gallery 2 videos, with expansions only if necessary.

The priority ranking for videos in this sub-gallery is as follows (i.e. if a higher-priority video fulfills the needs of that specific song, then lower-priority videos are not needed):

  1. Music video, if the audio in the music video corresponds to the audio in the gameplay. (This would include Maps.)
  2. Official audio video, if and only if the song does not have an official music video but the artist has uploaded an official audio clip for the song (this would include 4x4), or if the audio video reflects the version of the song used in Just Dance better than the official music video (this would include Wild).
  3. Ubisoft audio video, if the version of the song used in the game is a cover, or if the song is an Ubisoft Original. (This would include Jump in the Line, since a cover is used.)
  4. Audio videos from non-official sources. This would include audio of songs as heard in Just Dance gameplays, complete with censorship and other edits, but which are not available on official channels like Ubisoft- or artist-affiliated channels. As far as possible, refrain from adding these videos unless absolutely necessary. Cases where such audio videos will be allowed include the case where a large portion of the song has been edited, like with Dark Horse, or the case of the unreleased no-rap version of Havana.

Clarifications

In the Hall of the Pixel King should only have a video of the remixed track as used in Just Dance, and should not have the original classical composition.

In the case of Just Mario, where the only videos with the audio used in the game are from non-official sources, the original videos with the unremixed audio should not be added to the gallery.

Where videos from non-official sources have been used, the title of the sub-gallery should not contain the word "Official". For example, the corresponding sub-gallery for Dark Horse should be titled "Music Video/Audio".

In the case of Not Your Ordinary, whose audio file is an official lyric video, the section header should be "Official Lyric Video" instead of "Music Video". However, in the case of Fight Club, the section header should simply be "Audio" despite its audio file also being a lyric video, on the basis that it is non-official.

Teasers

This sub-gallery includes preview gameplays.
Both teasers from the US and UK official Just Dance channels must be added. Additional previews may only be added if they differ substantially from the US and UK versions.

Gameplays

This sub-gallery includes gameplays, and it can be divided into other sub-sections if the song has Alternate routines.
Unless there are graphical differences between two or more versions of a routine, only one gameplay of it is sufficient.

Extractions

This sub-gallery includes extractions and no-GUI video files.

Behind the Scenes

This sub-gallery includes Behind-the-Scenes videos of a certain routine.

Others

This sub-gallery includes other miscellaneous videos related to the article. If the Extraction and Behind-the-Scenes galleries each contain exactly one video, the sections should be merged into a single section with the header "Others". The Extraction video should be to the left of the Behind-the-Scenes video.

And that's it! You have made the article as good as possible. Of course, there are some discrepancies, so be sure to use logic or ask a fellow Wikimate if you need help. Please edit this page according to the correct template if I have missed out anything.

Also, note that the sections from Mashup to Captions are only if they exist for the song.

References

Add {{Reflist}} by default.

Site Navigation

Add the respective templates here. Every article is supposed to have links to any other version of the page on other language wikis. Do not link to nonexistent pages.

Other Notes

Titles

  • All references to song titles should be italicized (and hyperlinked in their first mention), e.g. Cheap Thrills.
  • All references to games, see the "{{G}}" section below.
  • Any and all stylized titles shall be referred to in their "Wikipedia"-style title formats, aside from the infobox, a disclaimer in the intro, and in the parent game’s track list table.
    • All artist names that are stylized in all-caps or all-lowercase shall be referred to in their "Wikipedia"-style formats everywhere on this Wiki, including the previously mentioned exceptions for song titles.
      • Artists whose names are stylized in the form of symbols, like "P!nk" and "Kesha (formerly Ke$ha)", are exempt from this rule.

Abbreviations

Acceptable abbreviations for use in the infobox:

  • Just Dance: JD
  • Just Dance 2 to Just Dance 4: JD2 to JD4
  • Just Dance 2014 onwards: 2014, 2015 etc.
  • Just Dance Now: NOW
  • Just Dance Unlimited: JDU
  • Just Dance+: JD+
  • Just Dance Wii to Just Dance Wii U: JDW, JDW2, JDWU
  • 舞力全开2015 to 舞力无限: 2015-C, JDU-C etc.
  • 舞力全开: JDC

  • Just Dance Kids, Just Dance Kids 2, Just Dance Kids 2014: JDK, JDK2, K2014
  • Just Dance: Disney Party, Just Dance: Disney Party 2: JD:DP, JD:DP2

Formatting Conventions

In the infobox,

  • Strikethrough (<s>[text]</s>) is used where a song has appeared in the final version of game (or has otherwise been officially mentioned, that is, the only source is not a leak, as being planned for but removed from a game), but was then removed. E.g. Nice For What, Big Bowl Thick Noodle, and High Light High Life.
  • Add {{Covered}} next to the original artist of a covered song, then insert a <br> and write the cover artist in parentheses ().

{{PAGENAME}}

The {{PAGENAME}} template is not obligatory, but it is recommended if the song title has an apostrophe or is longer than 12 characters. For song titles, always type it in italics (i.e. Good Article instead of Good Article).

Capitalisation Rule

Words like Files, Covers, etc. should not be capitalised by default, as they are not proper nouns, just basic nouns.

Contractions

Don't Do not use contractions in articles.

Passive Voice

Always use passive voice and reported speech, and refrain from using first- and second-person pronouns.

{{G}}

Use the {{G}} and {{G2}} templates when listing games. The codes for each game can be found on their respective template pages. {{G}} is used for linking, and {{G2}} should be used for subsequent references to a game that has already been linked.

Social Media

  • When mentioning social media accounts, the following conventions should be used:
    • For Just Dance pages on Facebook, state the country of origin of that Facebook page, e.g. "the Polish Just Dance Facebook page"
    • For YouTube, the YouTube channel name should be used; this means the American Just Dance channel should be referred to as "the Just Dance channel"; the British Just Dance channel as "the Just Dance UK channel" etc.
    • For Twitter and Instagram, the respective handles should be used; e.g. "@justdancegame_us" and "@justdance_uk" for the American and British Instagram pages respectively
      • To reference non-Just Dance or Ubisoft-related accounts, use the following format: "[celebrity/musician’s name]’s Instagram page [handle]", e.g. "K3’s Instagram page @k3.studio100"

Gallery Division

Only divide galleries if both of the following criteria are met:

  • The entire gallery has more than 3 images/videos, and
  • If the gallery were divided, at least one sub-gallery will have more than one image/video.

Rotobrushes

Since rotobrushes are not from the game files, they are considered fanmade, so they must not be added to the Extractions sections.

Watermarked Gameplays

Gameplay videos that have a watermark should only be added to articles if there is no other footage available. When a new video without watermark can be found, please replace the watermarked one with the new one.
