It consisted of three dancers - one lead and two backups - that would dance on a stage. There are three spots for players - one for each dancer[1]. Xbox One version of Just Dance 2014 gives two spots for each dancer[2]. The lyrics for each song that had this mode were centered and displayed above the dancers[3] (if playing on the World Dance Floor, they remain at their usual place). On-Stage Mode was planned to be in Just Dance 2015, but was scrapped for unknown reasons.
I Kissed a Girl (On-Stage Mode) is the only one where the backup dancers are of different genders.
Just Dance and #thatPOWER’s On-Stage routines are the only ones where all three dancers are of the same gender.
I Kissed A Girl (On-Stage Mode) is unlocked at the beginning of the game.
Applause (Alternate) shares many features with On-Stage Mode, namely that the background is similar to many On-Stage routines and that the dancer lipsyncs the song.
On the Wii, the player cannot return to the homescreen on the main menu while playing in On-Stage mode.
As seen on the official Just Dance website, the mode was originally going to return in Just Dance 2015; however, it did not appear in the final cut.
Some of the On-Stage routines made an appearance on Just Dance Unlimited and Just Dance Now, where the mode has been renamed to Sing Along.
