  • UPDATE: SHUTDOWN NOW ALSO APPLIES TO ALL 7TH-GEN VERSIONS OF JD2017-2018

Since last year’s JD3-4 online shutdown went without a giant notice and I missed out on JD4 Uplay stuff I’m making a big announcement for this shutdown. This has been previously brought up in Thread:556118 but I wanted to make a post that clarified it better.

Ubisoft is shutting down online services for the following games:

    • Just Dance 2014 (all consoles)
    • Just Dance 2015 (all consoles)
    • Just Dance 2016 (7th-Generation consoles)
    • Just Dance 2017 (7th-Generation consoles)
    • Just Dance 2018 (7th-Generation consoles)

The complete list, including non-JD games, can be found here: https://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/1241617-Online-Services-Update-Masterlist-Forums

This will primarily mean the following will no longer be available:

    • World Dance Floor
    • Uplay unlockables (you can still access stuff you’ve unlocked)
    • Just Dance VIP
    • Community Remix (excluding those on-disc)
    • Online leaderboards
    • Challengers
    • Viewing/sharing Autodance

The ability to purchase or redownload DLCs should not be effected (JD4’s are still accessible through the respective eShops) but it would be a good idea to download any deleted DLCs to a flash drive or SD card just in case.

IDK if monthly mashups will be effected but they probably will be.

If you’re on Wii that ship has most likely sailed because every time I tried entering in any codes in August it gave me a server error. Other consoles should be fine until the shutdown.

November 19th is right before Black Friday, which is when many people buy games. Ubisoft wants to focus their tech departments and servers on the new stuff rather than being stretched maintaining games that only have very few players.

I did that on the Wii U with that exact game. Yup, same result as you had.

About monthly mashups, I just went on my Xbox 360 which I have Just Dance 2014 for (and yup, it's an HDMI Xbox 360 thankfully) and I've already unlocked all the Uplay stuff, and it said when I went to the shop that the Ubi servers were unavailable so it didn't show the DLCs, it only showed the mojo unlockables and the monthly mashups. So there's a possibility that the monthly mashups will still be unlockable. Though I have a question: like the Cheetos unlockables in JD4, are monthly mashups stored in save files? Because even if they end the availability of those, then I could get a Wii save file and load it on Dolphin. I did unlock Safe and Sound and Waking Up in Vegas for JD2014 on Xbox 360 back in late 2013 when it was released with that Canada only promotion thing which I personally live in the US and you needed a Canada-based IP to access it, however Canada and the US are the same region (NTSC-U) so the code worked on mine. I was stupid and even though I got JD4 on Christmas 2012, I wasn't aware of the Cheetos thing so I used one of those Wii save files floating around on the internet to get it.

(edit: according to the thread, unlockables can still be unlocked however they can't be received after they discontinue internet features, in which case are those stored in Wii save files? Since the monthly mashups for other months tell me "internet connection required" when playing the game in those months (to get the mash-up and avatars))

(edit 2: I was able to get Follow the Leader's JD2014 monthly mashup for September just now and Ubisoft's servers weren't available, though I was able to receive it and it was fully playable)

or do you have to log on?

    • Based on my comment above SubioJDQuaks, I think monthly mashups fall under the same tent as DLCs in terms of how they're obtained and whether they'll still be there after the shutdown of the internet features outlined...and I think the same as for mojo unlockables for that matter.

    • Im just worried about the DLC songs, some of them are not available in JDU as of this time.

    • Download them and back them up. You can do this on literally every console DLC is available on from what I know.

        Loading editor
    • @ThePokémonGamer: Monthly Mash-Ups are 100% on-disc content. What happens when you unlock them is that a tiny bit of code is embedded into your save file to tell you that they've been unlocked. So, technically, information that keeps them unlocked is stored in the savefiles.

Based on Xbox 360 save data transfers I've done, the mashups and the code-unlockable songs are definitely stored in the save file, regardless of if the actual thing requires internet connection to unlock. Because I bought a hard drive with a few hundred gigs when I had knocked my main system memory down to just dozens of megabytes (no joke) and started a new game on that and my code-unlockable songs (Waking Up in Vegas and Safe and Sound) that I got in 2013 weren't there. I had to copy the save data I DID unlock them on to my manually purchased hundreds-of-gigs hard drive and then they appeared.

So no matter how you unlock those (whether it's through an internet feature or otherwise), it's stored in the save file of the game. (Hence why I was able to get You Make Me Feel and Brand New Start with a JD4 save file someone has had floating around online) They're only shutting down specific internet features, so things like DLC will still be obtainable until they announce otherwise.

I do think those code unlockable songs in JD3 (the ones where it's the Target or Best Buy version and you get a code on a sheet inside the disc case) are particular to the gamertag so you have to log in to the profile to have it on there since I won a bid with such unused code Best Buy discs on eBay once and entered them in on the JD3 menu to "download those exclusive Katy Perry tracks" they were referring to. This is of course the Xbox 360 version.

In the Wii version, it comes with the disc and if you have the Target version or Best Buy version, it'll be on the disc regardless of entering a code as the console will detect which version you're playing as the Target and Best Buy versions are considered their own game discs with the songs already on those.

FallenAngelII wrote: @ThePokémonGamer: Monthly Mash-Ups are 100% on-disc content. Yeah, I suspected. People have said the same about code unlockable songs from giveaways, I just thought it was possibly something else (like being downloaded into the save file) because people would have extracted the files from the disc and leaked it out there before the monthly mashups were made available - they probably did and I just didn't see it or something (I wasn't all that active with that kind of thing, except for the We Can't Stop leak because that was widespread). Though I don't doubt this because it's obviously something in the save file, as I discovered with this and the code unlockable songs above. Which means if someone had a save file (which I think is fine to refer to as long as it isn't linking to the game's ISO [which according the wiki rules, is strictly enforced], as people have linked save files here for the code redeemable songs), then I would be able to access these mash-ups even if the way they're supposed to be unlocked in the first place is no longer available for us.

(With the whole connection error and the thing regarding entering the store with the monthly mashups still there, I wonder what they do to verify which month it is. Like, maybe since they say "internet connection required" on the Xbox 360 version for mashups of other months, maybe they connect to the servers to verify the month. I wonder if it's possible to alter the month listed in something like the Wii settings or something like that and trick the game into thinking it's that month.)

    • ii know its based on my local save but on the wii verion and wiiu version u need to be connected online to unlock the mashups and , therefore, add ot the save file

so im asking for a save file from someone who already has the mashups unlocked so i can play them

    • Erich21 wrote: ii know its based on my local save but on the wii verion and wiiu version u need to be connected online to unlock the mashups and , therefore, add ot the save file

So I think they do verify that way after all. So it actually has to be that month in real time on the Ubisoft servers so I don't think it's based on the system clock...I wonder if anyone experienced with hex editing is able to start a save file and manually add those flags for having them unlocked. That's how it can work for other franchises like Pokémon at least.

You know, I've actually gotten one of those "free DLC" hacks (which I can't link for obvious reasons) and stealthily binged on downloading them all for Just Dance 2 and 3 back in July since both of those have some Wii-exclusive DLCs (the former especially; all of them are lol) and saving the files that contain them on the SD Card. The licenses are stored on the console so I dumped my whole NAND and the licenses so I could play it on the Dolphin emulator, and I used the SD Card files on the Dolphin emulator with a 2GB SD card configured with it. And since I have the DLCs on my Dolphin SD Card and I have the appropriate licenses for them in the NAND I use on there, it verifies me as the owner of those DLC files.

And that's where I got that better quality song listing image for Come on Eileen from...

Rafaemidio wrote: I'm pretty sure DLCs will still be downloadable on new-gen consoles, because they're not on Ubisoft's servers, they're on Nintendo/Microsoft/Sony's server.

I'm sure those companies would only take them down in the future if any contract changes required that (that happened with Dance Central by Harmonix when it came to relicensing of certain songs, so some left the Microsoft shop in recent years including the import packs), other than the Wii Shop Channel being phased out.

Well, yeah, but I was mainly thinking of that because JD2 is Wii-exclusive. Other consoles will maintain those two.

As for save file legality, the format of the code within the save file is the same however the bytes are unique and are technically written by your in-game actions when you do anything that involves saving (such as the autosaving that JD features). So the code stored in save files is unique, regardless of the fact that it's the same structure. Because of this, I'd consider it technically legal, still the wiki does permit and allow users to be linking to and distributing save files and asking for them in relevant threads and that settles it. :)

Community Remixes aren’t monthly unlocks, they’re just streamable. There’s nothing you can do to prevent them from going away. After the shutdown the only one will be Happy because that’s on the disc.

Which means it would be cool if someone could do a mod with it as in-game material (don't know if it's possible though since the code for it is on the Ubisoft servers).

I'd be interested in holding Wii save files for JD2014/JD2015 if anyone has them with all the monthly unlocks. Which makes me wonder if that "JD2014 Safe and Sound/Waking Up in Vegas" save file that's floating around on the internet has them unlocked so I can load them up in Dolphin for higher quality gameplay. But then I need one for JD2015 as well.

I did already back up the Wii DLCs for Just Dance 2 and 3 so those aren't going away as far as my enjoyment of the game goes - of course, sharing the NAND and the licenses/files on the SD Card which store DLC (which is the only way to keep them circulating after they're discontinued) is clearly 100% illegal and possibly against the wiki's policies since the NAND filesystem is Nintendo copyrighted material especially if there are any Wii Shop Channel downloaded VC/WiiWare games stored on there, and the SD Card data with the DLC tracks on them is also copyrighted code.

I don't care one iota about JD4/JD2014/JD2015 DLCs at the moment because those are still available on Xbox and Wii U and while JD3 DLCs are still available on Xbox, there are some (such as the PS3 songs, for if you want HD quality in Dolphin, and the JD3 version of the Just Mario track, as examples) that are JD3 Wii exclusive DLCs. If you can cope with it, you can also buy Just Dance Wii, a Japanese console (both of which I have), and you can play through all the songs to unlock Just Mario. That game doesn't even require learning Japanese to play even if you're setting the game IN Japanese and don't understand the dialogue - if you want English translations, you can use hacks to boot up the game in English since those English/Spanish/French translations are on-disc material which are unused because the standard official way of playing the game (on an NTSC-J console) does not have English in the settings (even if it was necessary to know Japanese to play the game, tbh I'd be fine, I can navigate, read, and understand everything on the game written in Japanese, the blurb on the disc case's back cover (also written in Japanese), and the Japanese menus so I don't need online translations or the notorious Google translator (or babelfish, or Bing, or any other equivalent machine translator) to understand any of it).

Yes, it is. That was the final one I unlocked.

    • "Let Me Love You" is unlocked through uPlay but played through Just Dance Unlimited. And even if you're unable to use uPlay to unlock it on JD2017, it's available on Unlimited in other games with Unlimited without the uPlay unlock.

As far as modding songs that are streamed through Ubisoft's servers into the physical game permanently, that is definitely illegal and as such should not be discussed here.

This too, which I forgot to mention (by the wiki's rules, if someone did it in their personal game and did not discuss, ask, or give advice on how to do it, and didn't distribute the modded version either, it's fine; it's only when they discuss how to do it or discuss where to download it, etc. that it becomes a problem, I'm not an administrator here though I do have common sense). Same goes with sharing NANDs with Nintendo's copyrighted data in them (or any gaming company for that matter, as I've mentioned above) or distributing Just Dance Hits or any illegal ISO copies of official games (and any fanmade games that use copyrighted material from an official franchise, such as hacks for example) on this wiki.

UPDATE: SHUTDOWN NOW ALSO APPLIES TO ALL 7TH-GEN VERSIONS OF JD2017-2018

Since last year’s JD3-4 online shutdown went without a giant notice and I missed out on JD4 Uplay stuff I’m making a big announcement for this shutdown. This has been previously brought up in Thread:556118 but I wanted to make a post that clarified it better.

Ubisoft is shutting down online services for the following games:

      • Just Dance 2014 (all consoles)
      • Just Dance 2015 (all consoles)
      • Just Dance 2016 (7th-Generation consoles)
      • Just Dance 2017 (7th-Generation consoles)
      • Just Dance 2018 (7th-Generation consoles)

The complete list, including non-JD games, can be found here: https://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/1241617-Online-Services-Update-Masterlist-Forums

This will primarily mean the following will no longer be available:

      • World Dance Floor
      • Uplay unlockables (you can still access stuff you’ve unlocked)
      • Just Dance VIP
      • Community Remix (excluding those on-disc)
      • Online leaderboards
      • Challengers
      • Viewing/sharing Autodance

The ability to purchase or redownload DLCs should not be effected (JD4’s are still accessible through the respective eShops) but it would be a good idea to download any deleted DLCs to a flash drive or SD card just in case.

IDK if monthly mashups will be effected but they probably will be.

      Oh... :(

Which is why I backed up my JD2/JD3 SD Card files and the NAND with the licenses for those since those games have Wii-exclusive DLCs.

For 4, 2014, and 2015, the Wii versions of those games don't have any exclusive DLCs that other consoles lack, so I don't need to back them up.

Honestly, I have no idea. I haven't been able to use the JD2014-2015 Wii WDFs for pretty much the whole year I think because of "server errors." It could just be having problems that aren't worth their time to fix to have these services run properly for another two weeks.

Though you'd need to use Horizon to fix the signatures (I'm not exactly sure if this would require jtag or RGH tbh, but it shouldn't if you have the IDs assigned to your profile and console)

For whatever reason, it appears you can still unlock monthly mashups, stream Community Remixes, occasionally connect to the World Dance Floor, and access the in-game shop on the Wii.

You can still download the DLCs from the Xbox Marketplace website, the Nintendo eShop on the Wii U, etc. Save yourselves all the trouble and use that for your DLC downloads instead now that you're unable to access the shop in-game.

Oh... I was under the impression you redeemed it a while ago and it suddenly disappeared. You can't redeem anything anymore. That was discontinued. You can ask for a refund.

      Here’s their exact words:

“Rewards will be disabled in-game, meaning that you can still unlock them, but you will not receive them. If you unlock them after the closure of the online service for the game, please feel free to contact our Customer Support team to be refunded.”

I think the uplay crap is already on the game's disc, regardless using a save file shared from someone else will work if they already have it unlocked. Though I don't know how save file exchanging and sharing would work on the Xbox One though.

    • But it was on the menu when the game was installing but now that its fully installed its gone

    • Are you talking about the uplay rewards? Yeah, you'll need to ask someone who already unlocked them in the past to share their save with you and then search online to find how you can transfer it to your console.

    • Nobody I know has JD

    • Then you need to try hex editing and see if you can map and sort out the flags yourself to add this content to your save file, since it's all on-disc already. Or find the right person, like how me and GetLuck have privately exchanged save data for some of the unlockable songs for instance.

    • I don't know how to hex edit or any type of edit!!!

    • Then you will need to try to find a save file online from someone else or find someone who can hex edit the data for you. I have the JD2014 and JD2015 uplay content unlocked on Xbox 360 but that's only Xbox 360 and thus I cannot share an Xbox One file for it.

    • I can confirm that Party Master on the Xbox One version of JD2014 is still working.

    • Is it really internet based though? I mean, if it doesn't require connection to the Ubisoft servers, that wouldn't be a surprise.

    • I had assumed the Smartglass was Internet-based but I guess it could be using Bluetooth.

    • Xbox SmartGlass still exists, it's now just a general app for Xbox. Also, it is internet based, but it's not part of Ubisoft's servers.

    • So it does still work I guess. As far as monthly mashups go, you need a save file from someone else (Sam has a Wii U save file for both 2014 and 2015) and I don't know how to exchange save files with people on the Xbox One (I do know how to do that on Xbox 360 however).
