The routine starts off with a camera view going into a cemetery room, looking at a closed door that slowly swings open. Going through this door leads to a graveyard. Then, it constantly switches from a graveyard to a nightclub with “THRILLER” written on the illuminated sign, then to various parts of an abandoned city. At the song's end, it quickly zooms backwards from the graveyard to the cemetery room, and then “MICHAEL JACKSON'S THRILLER” appears written on the screen in a bloody font. Behind it, the door closes, ending the routine.

- Thriller is the second longest song in the entire series, at a length of 6:00, only behind They Don’t Want Music which is 6:22.
- P2 looks back at the screen when "MICHAEL JACKSON'S THRILLER" is seen at the end of the song. Which is a reference to the end of the short film where Michael looks back at the camera with his yellow werewolf/cat eyes.
- On the 3DS version, when the splash of blood appears spelling "THRILLER", it's a reference to a segment to Mike's supposed This Is It tour.
- The intro on the Wii and PS3 versions have the "player" walk out of the haunted house, which is also a reference to the same segment.
- Thriller is the only song in the entire series to have a difficulty that isn't classified as Easy, Medium, Hard, or Extreme.
