Series recap[]
And now for a look at the series as a whole! There are so many Black artists in the series, spanning across genres, eras, and games. After all, the series just celebrated its 15th anniversary so there are a lot of people and songs here. From the biggest Afrobeats song, Calm Down, just last year to the 2000 hit Who Let the Dogs Out? on the very first game. From the first big hip-hop song, Rapper’s Delight, last year to Rihanna’s debut single Pon de Replay on Just Dance 2. And from the Hercules anthem Zero to Hero last year to unrelated Belgian techno anthem Pump Up the Jam on the very first game, we have gotten a taste of everything.
Excluding spin-offs, the Black artist with the most songs is Nicki Minaj with 11 songs, the third-most overall. Other Black artists with several songs include Rihanna (8), Beyoncé (7 + 1 with Destiny's Child), The Weeknd (6), Doja Cat (6), and SZA (5). Additionally, will.i.am has three songs as a solo artist and five with the Black Eyed Peas. When spin-offs are included, Michael Jackson and the Black Eyed Peas have entire dedicated games, Michael Jackson: The Experience and The Black Eyed Peas Experience, respectively. There is also The Hip Hop Dance Experience, a game dedicated to hip-hop.
Due to the sheer amount of songs and artists in the series, listing them all would make this blog incredibly long and we would be here until April. So instead, here is a small selection of songs and artists from each of the main series games, with three songs representing each game. Note that for all covers, the original artist is credited.
